A thank you from Wellwood

We received this special letter last week from Jane George, executive director of Wellwood, as a thank you for our support of their event last weekend. It’s only right that we return the thanks to you, Jane, for your leadership and dedication to helping people live well with cancer.

If you don’t know about the great work Wellwood is doing, check out the video below.

Dear Leeann:

I am writing to thank you – on behalf of all of the clients and volunteers of Wellwood – for your generous support of our event. We are very lucky to be one of the many great causes in Hamilton that you support through your sponsorship of advertising in the McMaster student paper, The Silhouette.

Wellwood is a Hamilton-based charity that is dedicated to helping people to live WELL with cancer. We assist those affected by this disease as they navigate an extremely complex health care system to access the supportive care services that they need, and where those services do not exist, Wellwood creates them. More than 25 programs, delivered by a trained team of 250 volunteers (many of whom have had a cancer experience) are completely free of charge to everyone affected by cancer – patients, family members, caregivers, friends and health care providers.

The event highlights awareness of colorectal cancer – the third most common type of cancer. Six per cent of the population will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime. People over the age of 50 should be screened, as should people with a family history, other cancers and chronic inflammatory bowel disease.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the event, which takes place on the McMaster campus this coming weekend (on Sunday, October 20.) We already have 500 participants registered and more than 140 volunteers scheduled to assist with the logistics. The Hamilton All Star Jazz band will perform, as it does every year. It is because of the generosity of community supporters like Findlay Law that our event continues to grow in scope, participation, visibility and proceeds generated.

For more information on Wellwood or to get a sense of the event itself, I have provided links to our youtube video and facebook below.

Again, Leeann, thanks so much to you and your colleagues for all that you do for our community. We are most grateful.

Sincerely,

K. Jane George
