Structured Settlement

Legal Glossary

When a plaintiff is awarded a settlement stemming from a lawsuit they can choose to have their monies provided to them in the form of regular payments over a certain period, rather than in one lump sum. This is called a structured settlement.

Structured settlements are tax-free and provide a guaranteed income stream which can protect a plaintiff from having settlement funds dissipated, when they are necessary to pay for future care or needs.
