Catastrophic Impairment

Under the Statutory Accident benefit regulations, a catastrophic impairment is one that results in, but may not be limited to:

  • Paraplegia
  • Quadriplegia
  • Amputation
  • Impairments - loss of arm(s) or leg(s)
  • Complete vision loss
  • Severe brain injuries
  • Mental and/or behavioural disorders
  • Injuries that have an impact on 55% or more of the whole person

When defined by a medical expert a catastrophically injured person has access to more medical and rehabilitation benefits throughout their lifetime.
